Fire at playground near elementary school was arson, Edmonton police say

Edmonton police believe a fire at a playground near an elementary school over the weekend was arson.

The Edmonton Police Service say it’s determined the fire at the playground near St. Pius X Catholic Elementary School – at 122 Avenue and 128 Street – was started deliberately.

Authorities say firefighters were notified Saturday around 8 a.m.

“The playground was severely damaged and will remain closed until further notice,” EPS said in a news release.

Police are investigating, and they are asking anyone with footage from the area on Saturday between 7 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. to contact them.
