Alberta Sheriffs shutter Edmonton home allegedly used as hub for illegal drug trafficking

An Edmonton home that police allege was a hub for illegal drug trafficking and abuse, including two fatal overdoses, was shut down Thursday.

The Alberta Sheriffs’ Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) unit closed the property at 6707 32 Avenue NW, in Mill Woods, with the owner and any individuals forced to vacate for 90 days – until Oct. 8.

The property will be boarded up, fenced and all the locks will be changed, the Alberta government says.

Community safety order conditions will remain in effect until Oct. 8, 2028.

The province says Edmonton police officers visited the property more than 250 times in the past decade for complaints about drug and criminal activity.

This is the third time since 2009 the property has been temporarily shuttered by SCAN.

“By suppressing the illegal and dangerous activities occurring at this property, SCAN has helped give the neighbourhood back to law-abiding residents,” Alberta Minister of Public Safety Mike Ellis said in a news release.

“It is unacceptable for Albertans to have drug-fueled criminal activity and chaos in their backyards, and I urge residents to stay vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activity in their communities.”
