Edmonton’s Borden Pool opening delayed until late July due to leak

The Borden Natural Swimming Pool in north Edmonton will not open until mid to late July after a leak was discovered in one of the pool basins.

The pool was originally set to open mid-June.

“The leaking was found where the pipe connects with one of the natural filter beds which is filled with rocks and plants,” Christina Chu, with the city’s community services department told CityNews in a statement.

“Investigation and repair of the leak source required removal of the rocks from the filter to expose the liner. The filter has now been repaired and reassembled.”

The city says after repairs, the pool is filled, and water is tested for safety and pass Alberta Health standards and inspections.

The city’s website currently lists July 21 as the pool’s opening date.
