Edmonton police say new technology allowed them to identify a woman who died last month.
The Edmonton Police Service enhanced a photograph of the woman using editing software after investigators “exhausted traditional investigative methods” in the attempt to identity her.
“Thanks to the public’s assistance, the woman’s family was successfully located and contacted,” the EPS said in a news release. “While we know that this identification process cannot mitigate the grief of those who have lost a loved one, investigators hope it can bring a measure of resolution to the family and friends of the deceased.”
The woman was found dead at 121 Avenue and 157 Street in west Edmonton on June 9. Police do not believe her cause of death was suspicious.
Police say the enhanced image was created using the force’s digital forensics section in collaboration with its police sketch artists.
