Edmonton fire crews respond to 30 calls about kids, pets left in cars in 7 days

As the temperature increases in the summer months, the Edmonton Fire Rescue Services is reminding pet owners to leave their pets at home — not in their cars — when they are running errands.
Fire officials told CityNews, “Between June 25 and July 1, 2025, fire crews were dispatched to 27 events involving pets unattended in vehicles and three events involving children unattended in vehicles.”
EFRS says they will only break windows to gain access to vehicles if there are immediate signs of distress or danger. If this is not the case, we will radio to the dispatch centre and request AMA assistance.
EFRS took to social media, urging Edmontonians to reconsider travel plans if there is a possibility that a child or pet may be left unattended in a vehicle.
We are seeing an increase in calls for children and pets being left unattended in hot vehicles.

It may be cooling off tomorrow, but children and pets should NEVER be left alone in vehicles — regardless of the weather. Change your travel plans if a child or pet may be left alone! pic.twitter.com/Q4e2njJ45a
