Alberta’s police watchdog is investigating after a man was shot by an officer in central Alberta.
Maskwacis RCMP were called to a home on the Ermineskin First Nation between Edmonton and Red Deer around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Mounties arrived to find a 36-year-old man with a suspected gun that he allegedly pointed at officers. RCMP say one of the officers fired their weapon at the man.
The officers provided life-saving first aid, according to the RCMP, and paramedics and STARS air ambulance arrived to rush the man to an Edmonton hospital.
No other injuries were reported.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been called in to investigate the incident.
ASIRT is called in to investigate any interactions involving police that result in death or serious injury.
