Two moose needed to be tranquilized and relocated from Edmonton streets on Monday.
Alberta fish and wildlife officers say both were yearling cows, likely recently separated from their mothers.
The first moose was tranquilized at the Armstrong Industrial area and was released by 10 a.m. outside of the city.
Fish and Wildlife say the second moose led officers nearly 60 blocks from Whyte Avenue to Calgary Trail before it was tranquilized in a RONA parking lot. It was safely relocated by 4 p.m.
Alberta Fish and Wildlife says there have been three moose relocations in one week in Edmonton, which they say is “unusually high.”
“Big thanks to EPS for their crucial support in keeping both wildlife and the public safe,” Fish and Wildlife wrote in a Facebook post.
Last month, an aggressive moose – quite possibly a mother with her calf – injured two people in separate incidents in Edmonton’s Forest Heights neighbourhood. The moose was eventually located, tranquilized in the Holyrood neighbourhood and relocated to a natural area northeast of Edmonton, but her calf was struck and killed by a vehicle.
