A Calgary woman will pay a $3,000 fine for dumping a headless deer carcass in a northeast Calgary parking lot last year.
Alberta Fish and Wildlife officers were called to the Monterrey Square Plaza at the northeast corner of 68 Street NE and the Trans-Canada Highway on Dec. 16, 2024 for reports a gutted and headless carcass of a mature white-tailed buck had been left near the commercial dumpsters behind a Co-op grocery store.
Officials appealed to the public in the search for the two suspects, a man and a woman, who were seen driving a 1998 to 2003 blue Toyota Sienna.
The woman has since been identified and pled guilty to multiple charges on April 30, including unlawful possession of wildlife, abandonment of big game (wastage), providing false/misleading information to fish and wildlife officers, operating a vehicle while suspended, and improper disposal of waste on private property.
A second individual is facing similar charges and is set to appear in court on Aug. 6.
Officers are still working to investigate how the pair got possession of the deer, as it’s believed neither person was responsible for killing the animal.
Anyone with any information on this incident, or any wildlife or fishery violation is encouraged to call the 24-hour Report A Poacher line at 1-800-642-3800 or report online https://www.alberta.ca/report-poacher.aspx
Fish and wildlife also says callers can remain anonymous and could qualify for a reward.
