Edmonton’s Entertainment District expanding this summer

Patio season is getting a little more exciting in the Entertainment District, as the City of Edmonton and Edmonton Downtown Business Association (EDBA) are looking to create more ways for Edmontonians to enjoy street entertainment and on-street beverages.
The Entertainment District, which previously saw a pilot project on Rice Howard Way, will be expanding to include 104 Street this summer.
The expanded initiative will mean that Edmontonians will be able to “purchase food and drinks, including alcoholic beverages, from participating businesses and enjoy them within the district’s boundaries amidst streetside entertainment,” according to the City of Edmonton.

“The Entertainment District pilot was such a great success, and we’re thrilled to be able to expand the concept to 104 Street,” said Puneeta McBryan, CEO, Edmonton Downtown Business Association.
“The Entertainment District bylaw creates even more of a positive impact on the businesses bordering our public events like the Farmers Market by allowing patrons to buy drinks inside and enjoy them out on the street. This supports our efforts to create a vibrant place to live, work and play by supporting the restaurant sector and providing fun, exciting experiences for Edmontonians and visitors.”
Over the summer, the Entertainment District on 104 Street will be open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Entertainment District on Rice Howard Way — which will also be seeing an expansion from last year, to include 101A Street between 102 Avenue and Jasper Avenue — will also be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Expanding the Entertainment District to 104 Street is a big win for all the businesses along this historic street,” said Kelly Smart, owner, Kelly’s Pub. “The ability to sell our product more broadly during events is very beneficial to us small business owners. Not to mention, as a business owner who likes to host events on 104 Street, eliminating the red tape for AGLC requirements as well as eliminating the cost of a fenced beer garden is a great added bonus.”
