Over $22K worth of drugs seized in routine traffic stop: Edmonton police

Edmonton police have reportedly seized over $22,000 in drugs after a traffic stop led to the discovery of various illicit substances.
EPS says around 6:15 p.m. on May 14, officers conducted a routine traffic stop on a black Dodge Ram for having excessively tinted windows. The stop was made as part of proactive enforcement that was being conducted near 107 Avenue and 101 Street.
During the stop, a further inspection of the truck led to the drugs being found inside.

“A traffic stop may appear minor, but it remains one of the most effective points of contact for detecting illegal weapons and drugs on our streets,” says Staff Sgt. Patrick Stevens of the EPS Crime Suppression Branch.
“People often wonder why police focus on minor traffic violations, but the recovery of $22,000 in illicit drugs makes the reason clear. Our officers deliver great work every day, all with the goal of keeping our community safe.”
Two men, 40-year-old Garett John Dillan George and 50-year-old Derek Lalonde, are facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and proceeds of crime.
Police also note that George was previously charged with the same charges on May 6.
