1 man dead following collision on 97 Street: Edmonton police

By CityNews Staff

Edmonton police says one person is dead and another is in hospital following a collision Friday morning on 97 Street.

EPS responded to the scene after receiving a report that a white Cadillac Escalade was heading north on 97 Street when it hit a white Honda Civic that was turning onto 165 Avenue from 97 Street.

Paramedics responded to the scene and treated a 71-year-old man, who was driving the Civic at the time. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

The driver of the Escalade — a 16-year-old boy — was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

For most of the afternoon, 97 Street between 161 Avenue and 165 Avenue had been closed due to the collision.

An investigation into the collision is underway, and police do believe speed was a factor.

If anyone has any information regarding the collision, including dash camera footage, they are asked to contact investigators at 780-423-4567.
