Edmonton police say a woman has been charged in connection with the stabbings of two individuals – including one that proved fatal – that triggered a lockdown at the Royal Alexandra Hospital on Friday.
The Edmonton Police Service says the 36-year-old suspect was arrested several hours after the incident near 102 Street and 110 Avenue. Police tell CityNews she was not arrested inside the hospital.
Authorities say the suspect and victims did not know each other.
Officers arrived around 11 a.m. to find 50-year-old Tricia Beaver with life-threatening injuries. She was taken to hospital, where she later died. An autopsy determined she died of a stab wound, and the manner of death was confirmed to be homicide.
Police say a second victim, a 35-year-old woman, was injured during the same incident, and went to the hospital on her own.
The hospital was locked down “as a precaution to ensure the safety of patients, staff and physicians.” The lockdown was lifted later that day.
Linsey Gouda has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder. None of the allegations have been proven in court.
