A 35-year-old Edmonton man has been charged with multiple child exploitation offences following a joint investigation by ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit and the Edmonton Police Service Child Protection Section.
Heman Palani was arrested on April 23 after allegedly luring two girls online, one of whom was sexually assaulted.
Police say he used several aliases on social media, including ‘hermesthefox’, ‘FOCKXINDAHENHOUSE’, ‘Alen Wake’, ‘Hemi’, and ‘Zane’, to contact girls aged 13 to 16.
“We encourage complainants who have been victimized by Palani to come forward to police,” said Staff Sgt. Jason Singh with the EPS Child Protection Section. “We take these offences extremely seriously, and our partnership between the EPS Child Protection Section and ICE allows us to investigate online child sexual exploitation thoroughly and bring the perpetrators of child abuse to justice.”
“When teens get into trouble online, it is crucial they know to tell someone they can trust. It is our hope that by releasing his photo and the names he used on social media, that other victims will come forward and speak with police,” said Cst. Stephanie Bosch of ALERT ICE.
Palani was released on several court-imposed conditions, including 24-hour house arrest. His next court date is scheduled for May 27.
Police believe there may be more victims and are asking anyone with information to contact them.
