Military vehicles being moved from Edmonton to Calgary for G7 Summit

A “substantial” number of military vehicles will be moved from Edmonton to Calgary over the next two weeks ahead of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis in June.
Alberta RCMP say the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) will move the military vehicles between May 15-30.
The vehicles will travel west on Highway 216 (Anthony Henday), south to Highway 2 (Queen Elizabeth II), west on Highway 201, west on Highway 1 and south on Highway 40.

The road moves will be done in the evenings to limit traffic disruptions.
“We ask all motorists to be careful around these vehicles and to pass with caution,” Alberta RCMP said in a news release.
The CAF is not sharing what equipment or how many vehicles are involved, “for operational security reasons.”
The Armed Forces are providing planning support, air mobility support, aerospace defence, rural terrain surveillance, as well as chemical biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive response for the leaders’ summit.

The G7 brings together leaders from Canada, the United States, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and Italy, as well as the European Union.
Police expect about 70 official guests, 2,000 delegates and 1,400 journalists will be in the area between Calgary and Kananaskis for the summit, which goes from June 15-17.
