Film crews take over West Edmonton Mall for U.S. TV show
The waters of West Edmonton Mall served as a filming location Saturday for the U.S.-based TV show Go/Nitro.
The show, currently in its fifth season and airing on the NBC network, follows host and producer Cory Carlick as he trains with professional sports teams or attempts physically demanding activities—often with just a single day to prepare.
“We travel all over the world, and we get one day to basically train with a sports team, or to try a highly physical activity,” said Carlick, who is also the Chief Creative Officer of Skycron. “The idea is to show how difficult it is to do certain things.”

Saturday’s shoot took place at two locations inside the mall: the World Waterpark and the waters surrounding the iconic indoor pirate ship, where Carlick learned to scuba dive on camera.
Carlick said he chose Edmonton not only for its unique setting but also as a new base for his production company, Skycron.
“Edmonton is a beautiful city, and we’ve found that a lot of companies here need the kind of work we do—something we honestly weren’t expecting,” he said. “In our opinion, it’s the hub of the West, and we’re very excited to be setting up Skycron offices here.”
Despite uncertainty surrounding U.S. tariffs, Carlick says his company is thriving—thanks in large part to support from Canadian federal and provincial government programs.
“There’s a big difference between the American government and our friends in the American film and television industry,” said Carlick. “Over the past 20 years, they’ve recognized that Canadians know how to get things done—with tax credits and incredibly talented crews.”

Carlick remains optimistic that cross-border collaboration will continue to thrive, regardless of political tensions.
“Canadians and Americans have been making great TV and film together for decades, and I think that will continue, no matter what,” he said.
