A new poll suggests the top concern among Albertans heading into Monday’s federal election is the cost of living.
The survey by Nextdoor Canada and the Samara Centre for Democracy also shows the number of those worried about high costs has jumped dramatically.
Back in 2021, the same poll found 33 per cent of Albertans citing inflation and the cost of living as the top issue heading into that election. That has jumped to 58 per cent in the latest poll with the price of groceries up 20 per cent since the last time Canadians went to the polls.
Tariffs and housing were the next top issues, followed by crime and polarization.
- 58 per cent of Albertans say inflation/cost of living are top concern
- 12 per cent of Albertans say tariffs are top concern
- 12 per cent of Albertans say housing is top concern
- 8 per cent of Albertans say crime is top concern
- 5 per cent of Albertans say polarization is top concern
The pollsters say cost of living was also the undisputed number one issue across all of Canada.
Advance voting turnout in Alberta surged this federal election, with a 26 per cent increase compared to the previous election in 2021.
The agency says more than 815,000 early ballots were cast in Alberta, which is just over 10 per cent of the overall total of nearly 7.3 million across the country.
Election day is next Monday, Apr. 28, and polls will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Calgary. More information is available at elections.ca.
