3 suspects arrested after security deposit boxes stolen from west Edmonton mosque

Police say three suspects have been arrested in connection with the theft of security deposit boxes from an Edmonton mosque last month.

The Edmonton Police Service says two men and a woman – aged 25 to 27 – were arrested on Tsuut’ina Nation, bordering Calgary, on March 25.

Charges are pending, with EPS saying they face 22 criminal charges related to drug possession and firearms offences.

The arrests came three days after a woman and man entered a mosque on 216 Street and 100 Avenue in west Edmonton “without permission” and allegedly stole several security deposit boxes containing cash and cheques – contributions made by mosque patrons throughout the prior week.

CCTV footage reportedly showed the suspects spent around 10 minutes inside the mosque.

The pair is believed to have then fled the scene in a vehicle driven by the third suspect.
