AHS issues warning for potential measles exposure at 3 Edmonton area medical clinics

Alberta Health Services has issued a warning regarding a confirmed case of measles in Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan.

AHS said Monday evening that an individual had been confirmed to have measles, and confirmed that the individual attended three different medical clinics between April 10 and 14.

Anyone who was at the following locations at the approximate times may have been exposed to measles.

• April 10
  • Kinder Care Medical Clinic
  • Unit 205, 11125 107 Avenue NW, Edmonton
  • Between 1:45 p.m. and 4:38 p.m.
• April 11
  • Ross Creek Medical Imaging
  • #103 10101 86 Avenue, Fort Saskatchewan
  • Between 7:05 a.m. and 11 a.m.
• April 14
  • ROKband Pediatric Headshape Clinic
  • #402 9945 50 St NW, Edmonton
  • Between 9 a.m. and noon

AHS says that measles is extremely contagious and spreads easily through the air.

Those who believe they may have been exposed are advised to monitor for symptoms.

Symptoms include a fever of 38.3 C or higher and cough, runny nose, and/or red eyes. Additionally, a rash will appear three to seven days after the fever begins.

A vaccine for measles is available for free and should be received within 72 hours of exposure.
