Edmonton police have identified the body of a 52-year-old man who died Sunday night in southeast Edmonton.

Around 10 p.m. on Apr. 6, officers responded to 66 Street and 38 Avenue after receiving reports of gunshots. When they arrived at the scene, they found a man injured.

Paramedics tried saving his life, but he was declared dead at the scene.

EPS says an autopsy was completed Tuesday, Apr. 8, and the man has been identified as Darrell Demchuk. The autopsy also confirmed that he died of a gunshot wound.

“We know there were a significant number of pedestrians and vehicular traffic in the area at the time of the shooting,” says Staff Sgt. Colin Leathem with the EPS’ Homicide Section. “We would really like to speak with anyone who was present as they may have important information.”

Police have released an image of a blue 2016 Honda Pilot, which is believed to be the vehicle involved in the shooting. It was seen near 23 Avenue and 66 Street just before 10 p.m., before heading west on 38 Avenue after the shooting.

Anyone who has any video footage in the area between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. is asked to contact investigators at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
