2 dead in crash southeast of Edmonton; police investigating possible impaired driving

Police say two people were killed in a highway crash involving two vehicles, including one that flipped upside down, southeast of Edmonton on Wednesday night.

Leduc RCMP say it happened on Highway 21 at Township Road 502 in Leduc County around 8:30 p.m.

They say a 33-year-old from North Battleford, Sask., and a 73-year-old from Camrose – who were both in the same vehicle – were pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Mounties say the driver may have been impaired; they are investigating.

The collision scene was closed to traffic for several hours as police investigated.
