Alberta spending $19M on flood & drought protection

    UP NEXT:

The Edmonton region has experienced heavy snowfall since Thursday morning. Some locals were back and shovelling and brushing ice from their cars to their driveways. Our Leo Cruzat reports.

Edmonton and its surroundings are wrapped in the white blanket of a winter wonderland—minus the wonder, which means snow cleanup.

Kenneth Opena, a student at the University of Alberta, says he already swapped out his winter tires, making his drive to the transit station challenging.

“Yeah, I feel like I definitely should’ve waited,” said Opena. “You know the weather is very unpredictable; I feel like a lot of people got fooled.”

The stress of clearing snow from his car and shoveling the driveway added to his busy school schedule.

“As a student, it’s hard enough keeping up with deadlines and final exams, and now we’re factoring in the weather,” said Opena.

CityNews asked more locals what they thought of the unexpected spring snowstorm.

“Glad I didn’t drive, and I don’t think I’ll be driving today,” said one local.

“It feels like I’ve run into Narnia,” said another local.

“We live in Alberta, so anything could happen,” said another.

Environment Canada is forecasting another snowfall next week, leaving locals unable to escape winter just yet.
