Alberta RCMP deputy commissioner announces retirement

Alberta RCMP says Deputy Commissioner Rob Hill has announced his retirement from the force.

The 37-year federal police veteran — 27 of which were spent with the RCMP — was appointed the Deputy Commissioner role last year.

“This was an incredibly difficult decision for me, but after some very serious thought, and many discussions with my family, I have decided that it is time,” said Hill in a statement.

“I’ve always said you’re either in operations or you’re supporting them. The Alberta RCMP is the epitome of that mantra, and the division is made up of dedicated, hardworking professionals who have committed themselves to making Alberta a safe and secure place to live. I couldn’t have been prouder to lead such a talented group of people.”

During his career, Hill also served as a medic with the Canadian Armed Forces, was a commanding officer at the Manitoba RCMP, and spent three years as the Manitoba RCMP criminal operations officer.

Once Hill’s departure date is determined, the RCMP will appoint an interim commanding officer until a permanent replacement is appointed.
