Edmonton to get its first mountain bike park in Queen Elizabeth Park

The Edmonton Mountain Bike Alliance (EMBA) is moving closer to creating the city’s first mountain bike park, thanks to a recent grant from the provincial government.

The park will be located in Queen Elizabeth Park, just east of the Walterdale Bridge, within the park’s wooded area.

“This is an incredible moment for the mountain biking community in Edmonton,” said Matt Edwards, a representative from EMBA. “The bike park will provide a dedicated space for riders of all ages and skill levels, promoting recreation, skill development, and a stronger cycling culture in our city.”

With the help of a provincial grant, the alliance has reached its fundraising target, raising over $600,000. Last year, the City of Edmonton also contributed $407,000 through a separate grant.

The total cost of the park is estimated at $1.2 million, with additional funding being provided through private sponsorships and donations.

The new funds will allow the alliance to begin construction as soon as the necessary development permits are approved.

The alliance has been working on the project for five years, advocating for a dedicated mountain biking space in the river valley.

The park will feature four main areas: a flow zone, an asphalt pump track, a skills area, and a dirt jump zone.

“We want to thank our dedicated volunteers, community supporters, and all levels of government for making this project a reality,” said Edwards. “This is just the beginning of what we can accomplish for the future of mountain biking in Edmonton.”

The Edmonton Mountain Bike Alliance plans to begin construction in the coming weeks, with hopes of completing the park by next year.
