Four car fatal collision in southwest Edmonton

Edmonton Police say a four-car crash that killed one person in southwest Edmonton on Thursday is believed to be caused by a medical episode.

Police say the collision was reported at around 7:40 a.m. in the intersection of 113 Street and 65 Avenue.

A 75-year-old woman in a Honda CRV was driving south on 113 Street when she rear-ended an SUV, driven by a 53-year-old woman, before continuing south and hitting a Honda Civic driven by a 26-year-old woman. The 26-year-old woman’s car then rear-ended an SUV driven by a 64-year-old woman.

The 75-year-old woman in the Honda CRV continued driving south onto a sidewalk and hit a tree. Police say the 75-year-old woman was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators say the 75-year-old woman most likely suffered a medical episode before the crash.

The driver of the Honda Civic was taken to hospital as a precaution, no other injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
