Driver, owner facing charges for overpass collision on Sherwood Park Freeway

Alberta RCMP says the driver and owner of the semi-truck that collided with the 34 Street overpass at the Sherwood Park Freeway earlier this week are facing 28 charges.

Tuesday morning, several roads were closed after a semi-truck carrying logging equipment hit the overpass on 34 Street just after midnight, causing extensive damage.

Police were able to slowly reopen lanes to allow traffic through the area, after an engineer assessed the damage.

Thursday, Mounties say five tickets were issued to the driver, which will require a court appearance under the Commercial Vehicle Safety Regulation. With a sixth being issued for causing damage to the roadway.

Additionally, EPS issued 13 tickets to the driver, which total around $25,000.

RCMP says the company of the vehicle has also been issued nine tickets, totalling over $13,000.
