As a result of the collision, the north and southbound lanes of 34 Street have been closed. Westbound lanes of Sherwood Park Freeway have been diverted onto 34 Street.

Just after 6 a.m. Strathcona RCMP in a press release said, “The bridge is expected to be closed for many more hours. No traffic can proceed on the bridge (both directions), as well as on 34 Street.”

By 1:51 p.m., Mounties had left the scene, but confirmed that a Volker Stevin engineer had attended to assess the damage. Following the assessment, the bridge will remain closed indefinitely.

As of 9:07 a.m. on Wednesday, some traffic was able to get through the area, with RCMP saying the westbound lanes of the Sherwood Park Freeway are open.

At the same time, north and southbound traffic on 34 Street was open in one lane in both directions. However, those lanes are reduced to 30 km/h.

Edmonton police also responded to the incident.
