Alberta RCMP says a man from Egypt is facing voyeurism charges after allegedly recording people in a universal family changeroom in downtown Fort McMurray.
Mounties say around 11:05 a.m. on Feb. 19, they received a report that a man had been recording inside the change room the morning before.
The report indicated the incident happened between 9:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. when the complainant noticed a cell phone place under the door of the changing stall. They reportedly yelled which is when the suspect fled.
Through an investigation, Mounties learned that there had been several other reported incidents made to staff at MacDonald Island through February. Reports alleged a man had recorded employees and patrons.
From this, police collected video surveillance from MacDonald Island, and were able to identify a suspect with the help of staff.
On Feb. 20, Mounties reportedly contacted the man in question, and he later turned himself into police.
Since, 39-year-old Hazem Abdelmaksoud from Egypt is facing voyeurism charges.
Abdelmaksoud has been released from custody on a release order with conditions and is expected to appear in court on Feb. 26 in Fort McMurray.
An investigation is ongoing, and Mounties are asking if anyone has any more information or if they may have been a victim to a similar incident, they are asked to contact police at 780-788‐4040 or Crime Stoppers at 1‐800‐222‐8477.
This update has been made to reflect an RCMP amendment on MacDonald Island reported information.
