Alberta MLAs will return to Legislature this week
Alberta’s MLAs will return to the province’s capital Tuesday for the first sitting of the Legislature this year.
Elected officials last had a legislature sitting on Dec. 4, 2024.
The 2025 sittings are a continuation of the first session for the 31st Legislature.

“Alberta’s government is heading back to the legislature to continue to work for Albertans. In the face of the shifting geopolitical landscape and a federal government preoccupied with its own internal bickering rather than guiding the country through these uncertain waters, our government will be taking decisive action to ensure Alberta is best positioned to meet challenges as they come,” said Joseph Schow, Government House Leader and Minister of Tourism and Sport.
MLAs will sit on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week, before the Assembly adjourns for a week for a constituency week. This is time designated for representatives to spend time in their communities by working in their local offices, meeting with constituents, and attending local events.
According to the province, the government will table around 20 pieces of legislation, which include:
- Agriculture and Irrigation Statutes Amendment Act
- Automobile Insurance Act
- Financial Statutes Amendment Act
- Mental Health Services Protection Amendment Act
- Professional Governance Act
- Public Safety and Emergency Services Statutes Amendment Act
- Red Tape Reduction Statutes Amendment Act
- Utilities Statutes Amendment Act
- Wildlife Amendment Act
The remainder of March will see a sitting every week, Monday to Thursday, before another constituency week at the beginning of April.
April sittings will be the 7th to 10th, 14th-17th, and 28th to 30th, with a break for Easter from April 18 to 21, and a constituency week to follow.

The first half of May will see regular sittings up until the long weekend, which will kick off the Assembly’s summer vacation.
Representatives will return to session in Edmonton at the end of October to finish out the calendar year.
