Edmonton police hate crimes unit investigates damage to downtown gay bar

By News Staff

Edmonton police’s hate crimes unit is looking for a suspect who allegedly defaced the outside window of a popular 2SLGBTQ+ nightclub downtown during the Christmas holidays.

The Edmonton Police Service says the man was caught on surveillance camera defacing the window of Evolution Wonderlounge on Dec. 22, 2024, around 5:10 a.m.

Authorities say the damage to the window was directly over a “Protect Trans Kids” poster that was inside the bar. The suspect also allegedly carved what police say appears to be a cross into the window glass.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call EPS at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.

Evolution Wonderlounge has been the victim of vandalism in the past.

In April 2024, a Pride flag was removed from the front of the downtown lounge and thrown into the garbage.

In 2022, it had its front window smashed on multiple occasions.
