Police seize 94 prohibited knives from central Edmonton convenience store

Police have cracked down on a central Edmonton convenience store accused of selling prohibited knives and contraband cigarettes.

The Edmonton Police Service says it executed a search warrant at Brothers Gift and Smoke Shop on 100 Street and 106 Avenue on Jan. 14.

Authorities say officers seized 94 prohibited spring-assisted knives; 27 packs of contraband cigarettes; proceeds of crime; stolen property; and two CCTV hard drives.

“The fact that illegal knives are so readily available in some central Edmonton businesses is a significant contributing factor to the violence and disorder in our inner city,” said Cst. Steven Viezel with EPS’ community safety teams in a news release.

The shop’s owner and an employee were arrested and charged with weapons trafficking, trafficking of contraband cigarettes and more. The employee was also charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
