Charges laid in inmate death at Edmonton Remand Centre

Edmonton police say a 32-year-old man has been charged in connection to a death at the Edmonton Remand Centre in December.
EPS says officers responded to a report of an assault between two inmates at the ERC on Dec. 18, 2024.

Reports indicated that a 26-year-old had suffered injuries during the incident and was taken to hospital, where he later died.
An autopsy was later able to identify the 26-year-old as Nathaniel Burchat. It was also confirmed that Burchat died from a head injury.
Through an investigation, police charged 32-year-old Kai Keller with second-degree murder.
