Alberta truck driver charged in death of motorcyclists on charity ride

The driver of a semi-truck accused of killing two motorcyclists and injuring six others in a collision northeast of Edmonton last summer has been charged.
Michael Maurice Koochin of Slave Lake, Alta., is facing more than a dozen charges including criminal negligence causing death, criminal negligence causing bodily harm and possession of methamphetamine.
Koochin is also accused of operating a vehicle that was uninsured and non-compliant with standards.

On Aug. 31, 2024, RCMP say a semi-truck crossed over into oncoming traffic on Highway 2 near High Prairie, hitting a group of motorcyclists taking part in a charity ride for the homeless.
Motorcyclists Laurent Isadore, 38, of Drift Pile First Nation, Alta., and Edmonton’s Tyler Duboski, 33, were killed.
Six other riders were taken to hospital with various injuries.
High Prairie is about three-and-a-half hours northeast of Edmonton.
