Accused in Edmonton security guard shooting has court proceedings put over

One of the accused in the shooting death of a 20-year-old security guard in December has had court proceedings put over for two weeks.
On Dec. 6th — Edmonton police say Harshandeep Singh was gunned down inside a downtown Edmonton apartment building. Singh was working as a security guard inside the building — just three days into the job.
A 30-year-old-man and woman — Evan Rain and Judith Salteaux allegedly seen in security camera footage of the shooting both face first degree murder charges.
Rain appearing in an Edmonton courtroom Wednesday morning through CCTV at the Edmonton Remand Centre wearing an orange jumpsuit and glasses.
His new lawyer, saying he needs time to review the case.
Citynews was on-scene in the hours following the shooting — speaking to a neighbour inside the building — one of the first people to provide aid to Singh before police arrived.
“He had a big book bag on him with his security jacket,” said Tammi Comeau who lived in the building. “He still had his cellphone in his hand, and you could tell that he was not going to make it.”
“He was just trying to keep us safe,” added Comeau. “And he lost his life.”
Weeks later, the building evacuated and closed by the City of Edmonton citing numerous safety concerns and violations.
Harshandeep Singh was a Business Administration student at Norquest College in downtown Edmonton.
Students and faculty coming together a week after his death to commemorate the 20-year-old student.
Edmonton’s Sikh community coming together to help the man’s family back home in India, telling CityNews the 20-year-old man had dreams of becoming a police officer.
Singh, honoured by Edmonton’s first responders at his funeral days later.
“He wanted to go to the police, he wanted to serve Edmonton and our people – Edmontonians,” said Gulzar Singh Nirman, social worker. “So we loose a very humble, nice and a brave young man.”
Rain is expected back in court to enter a plea on Jan. 22.
