Citywide parking ban to begin as snow clearing moves into residential areas

A phase 2 citywide parking ban will begin on Tuesday, at 7 a.m., as snow clearing operations expand into residential neighborhoods.

Crews will work around the clock, Monday through Friday, to clear snow and ice from residential roadways, with the parking ban in effect during weekdays and lifted on weekends.

“Crews will be clearing residential roadways in neighborhoods throughout the city and it is imperative residents remove their vehicles to allow crews to safely and effectively clear the snow and ice,” said Val Dacyk, General Supervisor of Infrastructure Field Operations, Parks and Roads Services. “Crews will address the rutted and uneven conditions while maintaining a five-centimetre snow pack on the roadways.”

The parking ban is expected to last up to 10 days, depending on weather, with each neighborhood affected for approximately 72 hours. Residents are urged to watch for signs at neighborhood entrances and consult the city’s interactive Roadways Snow Clearing Map to track which streets are scheduled for clearing.

Under the phase 2 ban, vehicles parked on residential streets may be ticketed. “When signage is present, or a road is listed as ‘In Progress’ on the interactive map, crews will be active in the area within 72 hours and all vehicles must be removed from the road,” said Dacyk.

Residents can continue to park in their driveways or garages during the ban and on cleared streets where parking is normally permitted. Notifications about snow clearing schedules are available through Service Notifications via email or text.

Motorists are also reminded to maintain a safe distance from snow clearing vehicles to allow crews to work efficiently and safely.
