House fire occurred in Devon at the dawn of New Year’s Eve

In the early morning hours of New Year’s Eve, a house under construction in the South Ravines neighbourhood of Devon — just southwest of Edmonton erupted into flames.

According to one RCMP we spoke to says, the fire started around 4 a.m. and later to be put out around 6 a.m.

The fire also caused some damage to the house beside it, as well as the fence behind that affects a residential home’s backyard.

CityNews spoke with a neighbor off-camera. They said they were worried the fire would reach the house. They admitted they were concerned the fire was started by an arsonist, but that’s uncertain at this point.

Investigators are asking for video footage from doorbell cams and surveillance video in the community that could provide more clues.

No one was inside the house, RCMP and local fire departments are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
