Calgary Police have arrested a 21-year-old who was wanted in connection with a series of arson and extortion cases.

      By News Staff

A man who was wanted in connection to a series of arsons in south central Edmonton in the fall has been arrested in Calgary.

The Edmonton Police Service alleges the 21-year-old deliberately set fire to a vehicle and home in three separate incidents in September and October. In each case, a note demanding Bitcoin was later found.

The man was wanted for arson with disregard for human life and extortion in connection to the three fires. He was also wanted in Calgary for similar offences.

The Calgary Police Service alleges the same suspect set fire to a home in the Hillhurst neighbourhood last month, which caused minor damage, in an attempt to extort Bitcoin from his victims.

Police in Calgary say Finbar Hughes was arrested Wednesday.
