Pair of Edmonton bridges dedicated to fallen police officers

Two bridges on the southwest corner of the Anthony Henday officially rededicated Friday to honour fallen EPS constables Brett Ryan and Travis Jordan.

A pair of Edmonton bridges now, officially honouring the names of two fallen police officers.

The pair of bridges on the southwest corner of the Anthony Henday officially rededicated with new signage Friday, to constable Brett Ryan and Travis Jordan, shot and killed on the job in March of 2023.

“You don’t want to see any of those who are fallen be forgotten,” said Chief Dale Mcfee, Edmonton police service.

“It’s just something that is going to outlast all of us. And it’s just, you know, here’s two young men that gave their lives obviously for service,” added Mcfee.

Edmonton’s police chief hopes this permanent dedication will help Edmontonians remember both the tragic day when two police officers were killed responding to a family violence call; but also, the moments after, when the community came together to support the police force.

“The two young men were real, and they paid the ultimate sacrifice. These are good young guys, I think of Brett he’s got a little one now that he’s never seen. That was all because they took the call and they went above and beyond to try and keep people safe,” said Mcfee.

The direction of the bridge is symbolic, if you are driving east, that side is honoring Constable Jordan, who is from Nova Scotia. If you are heading west, that would have been a route taken by Constable Ryan, who lived and coached hockey west of the city in Spruce Grove.
