Edmonton records 21 cm of snow in November 2024 after having none in November 2023

Winter in 2024 is looking a lot different than it did the year before. Elliott Knopp discusses the amount of snowfall brightening up Edmonton

Edmonton’s winter in 2024 is looking a lot different than it did the year before.

Some people may be relieved to see a white Christmas returning to Edmonton this year and some may be dreading it.

In 2023, Edmonton had essentially no snow in November. One year later, the city has seen 21cm of fresh powder in just a couple weeks.

If you’re looking to get away from the wintry weather in Edmonton, jasper is about 10 degrees warmer and hotels there less expensive than you might expect.

On hotels.ca recommended hotels are a little over $130 a night, while Banff, hotels are over $100 more.

“We are expecting people to come out this weekend. This time of year, the skiing is in great condition, and we have lots of options for people with runs open right now,” said Brian Rode, Vice President, Marmot Basin.

A snap road trip may not be in the books for everyone, so how does this fan of fairer temperatures plan on getting by?

“You just go through it. There’s nothing you can do to change it, you appreciate the little things about it. So, just getting a hot chocolate on a cold day,” says one local.

Edmonton is expected to heat up by about 20 degrees, after the weekend.
