Edmonton police seeking public assistance in search of murder weapon

Edmonton Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a weapon believed to be used in the murder of Aaron Staszko on Oct. 16, 2024, in the area of 34 Street and 138 Avenue.

The weapon, an orange-handled machete with a black curved blade, is suspected to have been left on or near a dirt path in the river valley in the area of 20 Street and 137 Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene of the crime, they located a severely injured 32-year-old man in critical condition. The victim later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

On Oct. 19, 2024, police arrested Michael Ferreira, 33, for second degree murder, assault with a weapon and uttering threats in relation to his interactions with a 35-year-old woman during the initial disturbance incident.

All three people were known to one another.
