EPS investigation into woman’s 2023 homicide concludes after lone suspect dies

By News Staff

Edmonton police say a homicide investigation into the 2023 death of 49-year-old Debbie Elaine Poole has concluded after the only suspect passed away.

Edmonton Police Service officers were called to assist firefighters after Poole’s body was found at a home near 123 Street and 128 Avenue on the afternoon of Aug. 10, 2023.

An autopsy four days later determined Poole died of a stab wound, but at the time, the manner of death was undetermined.

“Further investigation, including the re-examination of evidence, was conducted and the manner of the woman’s death is now considered homicide,” EPS said in a news release.

Edmonton police did not specify when the evidence was re-examined, and at what point the death was ruled a homicide.

A man who knew Poole was identified as a suspect. No charges were pursued as the suspect died, though police did not provide more details on his death.

The EPS is not looking for additional suspects.
