Police investigate 7 arsons in south Edmonton, seek doorbell cam footage

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) are actively investigating seven arsons, including a fire that occurred in King Edward Park neighbourhood on Thursday.

According to police, they began investigating a suspicious fire in May 2024, in the Strathearn neighbourhood. Since then, six additional suspicious fires have been reported in the Cloverdale, King Edward Park and Holyrood neighbourhoods.

Police say while these fires are suspicious, there are no connections to Project Gaslight currently.

“While we are unsure at this time if these incidents are connected, we are actively investigating seven suspicious fires that have thankfully not injured anyone,” says A/S/Sgt. Chantelle Kortbeek of the EPS’ Downtown Investigative Response Team.

Police are seeking doorbell camera footage and have asked residents to be cautious.

Police said they will also be proactively patrolling the affected areas in southwest and southeast Edmonton.
