Attempted murder in Westlock County: arrest warrant for youth expanded Canada-wide

Police in Alberta say the arrest warrant for a youth suspect wanted in connection with the attempted murder of an 18-year-old woman in Westlock County in September has been expanded Canada-wide.

Three Edmonton youths have already been charged with attempted murder, robbery, aggravated assault and more.

Westlock RCMP say they want to bring the fourth suspect, whose name cannot be released, into custody “peacefully without injury to the youth, the public or the police.”

“It is clear that given the age of the youth, they must be getting assistance to evade capture,” Staff Sgt Jeff. Sehn said in a news release Friday. “Those providing assistance could face criminal charges including but not limited to Obstructing Justice and Parties to Offence.”

Investigators say the victim was transporting the four accused out of Westlock on Sept. 7 when the male suspects “suddenly attacked” her near the Long Island Lake RV Park. Police allege they intended to kill her and leave her in the forest.

The woman was first taken to a local hospital before being taken by STARS air ambulance to an Edmonton hospital for further treatment. She sustained serious life-threatening injuries.

Mounties say they are still looking for the victim’s vehicle, which was stolen during the incident. It is described as a 2010 Green Mini Cooper with Alberta licence plate CPL-5715.
