Fire at under-construction home in Edmonton

An under construction house was engulfed in flames early Thursday morning, Edmonton Police investigating.

Firefighters were called to put out a blaze at a home under construction at 92 Avenue and 81 Street just after midnight on Thursday.

Edmonton Fire tells CityNews seven units responded. The fire was called under control by 1:29 a.m. but had not yet been called out by 9 a.m.

There were no injuries reported.

“Looked at this triplex that’s kiddie-cornered next to our house… completely engulfed in flames,” said a concerned neighbour, a Holyrood resident.

The blaze spread to a nearby home and caused big damage to the roof and walls.

Fire and EPS investigators were on the scene throughout much of the day. It’s not known at this time if police are deeming it suspicious.

This is not the only fire in Holyrood within the last two months.

EPS is investigating two fires in the community. One of them involved a note demanding bitcoin on a vehicle.

The witness CityNews spoke to says it’s scary to see another fire.

“There’s definitely concern in the community about safety and crime. It’s always been a beautiful, quiet neighbourhood. Neighbours stick together.”
