2 hospitalized in serious collision caused by recliner on Yellowhead Trail

Edmonton police are looking for the driver of a pickup truck that was hauling a recliner on Yellowhead Trail Wednesday evening, after the recliner fell out of the truck, leading to a collision.

EPS says around 9 p.m., officers responded to a report of a collision on Yellowhead Trail near Winterburn Road.

Reports indicated that a recliner had fallen out of an older model dark-coloured pickup truck that was heading west. The driver of the pickup then stopped to collect their recliner.

While that was happening, a Toyota Corolla that was also heading west, slowed and stopped to avoid hitting the recliner, when it was rear-ended by a Chevy Avalanche.

Following the collision, the driver who had been transporting the recliner fled the scene.

Paramedics along with STARS Air Ambulance responded to the scene, and took a 46-year-old woman who was driving the Corolla to hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries. Additionally, the 79-year-old man who was driving the Avalanche was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

If anyone has any information regarding the driver of the pickup truck, or footage of the collision, they are asked to contact police at 780-423-4567.
