Edmonton police looking into intentional fires in Holyrood, Cloverdale

Edmonton police say they are investigating a pair of fires that were intentionally started within the last month.

EPS says the first fire happened around 5:05 a.m. on Sept. 23 near 77 Street and 95 Avenue.

During the incident, police say a vehicle was deliberately set on fire. No injuries were reported, however, a note demanding Bitcoin was found on the vehicle owner’s doorstep.

Police say they responded to a report of a house fire that was deliberately set.

Through initial stages of an investigation, police did not believe the fire was arson, however, notes with similar handwriting to the vehicle fire in September were found at nearby homes.

“At this time, it is unknown if these two incidents are directly related,” says Det. Sean Thorimbert of the EPS Southwest Investigative Response Team. “We are hopeful that members of these impacted communities will be able to provide information that will assist with our efforts to identify anyone who might be responsible for these fires.”
