Edmonton golf courses getting ready to close for season

Edmonton Golfers enjoy final swings as city’s golf courses set to close for the season. Hiba Kamal-Choufi reports.

Local golfers are about to put their clubs away, as golf courses in Edmonton are getting ready to close their doors for the fast-approaching winter.

Many of the city-owned courses are set to shut down on October 20th.

“It kinda fell like a bonus. I don’t think we were planning on coming here, but because of the nice day. We thought do it now while we have a chance,” said one golfer.

Another saying, “It’s a beautiful Sunday morning. We were here about an hour ago!”

Edmontonians hit the links at Victoria Golf Course and driving range Sunday taking advantage of the warm weather before temperatures take a plunge into the minus next week.

“You gotta little wind in here. Little action. It’s a nice course in the city.”

As Edmonton’s forecast to see a downturn in temperatures, the city announced Sunday, October 20, will be the last day Victoria, Rundle, and Riverside golf courses will be open.

“I kinda don’t like to golf in the cold because you’re body is very limited. Look it’s warm out, I’m already wearing a touque.”

The driving range at Victoria Golf Course will stay open with reduced hours. It’s open from 9 to 6 p.m. and will remain open throughout October. The City will provide updates on hours based on weather conditions over the next few weeks.
