Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis says it supports the Camrose Casino moving into Edmonton to improve revenue, but the city says it can't support the construction, and the move would take money away from local charities

The Alberta Gaming Liquor Cannabis Board says a casino in Camrose will be moving to Edmonton.

The AGLC says the move comes after “careful consideration” where it heard objections and support for the move.

One of the key factors in the move is the Edmonton and rural pools for charitable gaming events.

According to the AGLC, Camrose Casino moving to Edmonton will improve returns for rural charities with minimal impact to charities assigned to the Edmonton pool.

In addition, the casino’s move will create new jobs in Edmonton, while also creating more revenue for the province.

The AGLC says before the move happens, the owners of the Camrose Casino still needs to complete some steps, including ensuring all land use permits, zoning and development approvals are in place, construction of the facility and ensuring all federal, provincial, and municipal legislation, regulations and policies are met prior to AGLC issuing a casino facility licence.
