Owner of southern Alberta dog kennel facing animal neglect, weapons charges

A Foothills County man is facing several charges after RCMP responded to a High River dog kennel and found animals not being cared for, as well as several weapons violations.

Police say on Sept. 3, officers attended a call at the Dawg Father Dog Kennel on the north end of High River.

While there, RCMP officers found evidence of weapons offences in plain view.

One man was arrested on scene and a search warrant was obtained by police.

While conducting the search of the property, police also found animals who weren’t being suitably cared for.

Justin Stenabaugh, 38, a resident of Foothills County, has been charged with two counts of possession of a restricted firearm at an unauthorized place, four counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited device, two counts of careless use of a prohibited device, two counts of unsafe storage of a firearm, and animal neglect.

According to posts on social media and a GoFundMe page, Stenabaugh is the owner and operator of the Dawg Father.

He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Okotoks court on Nov. 1.
