Edmonton police find teen’s remains in burnt vehicle, seek witnesses in fatal crash

Police found the remains of a teen in a burnt vehicle following a crash in northwest Edmonton last week.

In a news release Monday evening, Edmonton Police Service Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS) officers stated that speed and impairment are believed to be factors in a fatal collision that occurred at Yellowhead Trail on Oct. 3.

According to EPS, at 1:40 a.m. on Oct. 3, 2024, a white Dodge Dakota traveling northbound on 149 Street approaching Yellowhead Trail, attempted an eastbound turn and crossed the grassy median and struck a cement barricade, resulting in the vehicle catching fire.

EPS stated that an unknown person assisted the driver out of the vehicle before it was completely engulfed in flames. The 19-year-old driver was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

However, through the course of the investigation, police discovered that there maybe have been another occupant, and they began a search for the missing 19-year-old male occupant. On Oct. 4, 2024, police identified his remains in the severely burned vehicle.

Officials said they are looking to identify the Good Samaritan who assisted the driver out of the vehicle, as well as any other witnesses. Anyone with dash camera footage is also requested to contact police at 780-423-4567 or #377.
