Police identify person of interest in relation to massive south Edmonton fire

Edmonton police say they have identified a person of interest who was seen riding a bike towing a small cart in the area of a fire that displaced 70 people early in the week.

The blaze that happened at around 4:30 a.m. on Sept. 18 destroyed an apartment building and several townhouses in the Desrochers neighbourhood.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are not known at this time, and police have confirmed an investigation is ongoing.

Officers also say doorbell footage provided to investigators shows a male and female witness walking with a wagon and a stroller in the same area where the suspect on the bike was last seen.

Police would like to speak with the pair, and are asking anyone else who may have doorbell camera footage of the suspect on the bike to contact them.

Anyone with video footage or other information related to the fire can contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
